African Grey - Large - Adult - Female - Bird - Angel

Angel is a suspected female, Congo African Grey. Angel is 5 years old and prefers women. Angel is a sweet girl who is gentle and likes to have her head scratched. She is still coming out of her shell but is becoming increasingly confident by the day. She prefers to step up onto your arm when you have a towel draped over it and will need some patient, positive reinforcement training to build her trust of stepping up onto a hand. Angel's situation was a true rescue emergency. We were contacted by her owner, a woman who was a self professed animal hoarder. Although the woman loved Angel and raised her from a chick, Angel and the other 4 birds removed from the woman's house were living in a very neglectful and filthy environment. Angel and the other birds probably would not have survived if left in those conditions much longer. Angel is recovering well and we are learning more and more about her preferences and behavior each day. Angel's adoption fee is $300. She has been in rescue since 5/2009. *To adopt a bird you must attend bird care/behavior classes regardless of where you live. We only adopt within reasonable day's driving distance of the Eugene/Springfield area. We do not ship birds. At the class you can receive the name of the foster home that has the bird you're interested in and you can make an appointment with the home to do visits with the bird. A certain number of visits is required for each bird before an application will be accepted. Upon completing meetings with the bird you can put in your application at that time if you choose and expect to attend an adoption meeting. Large birds and some small will have a probation period during which time you will serve as the foster home before an adoption will be finalized. There will be a home inspection for every adoption. If the adoption is approved, either on a probationary basis or not, payment is then due and you can arrange to pick up your bird. There may be follow up phone calls from Exotic Bird Rescue after the adoption. Adoptions are not a first come first serve deal- we choose the most appropriate home for that particular bird.
