Description
Elvira is a tame, female, green African Ringneck who is about 6 years old. Elvira is a talented little ringneck and loves to whistle the children's song, "The worms crawl in the worms crawl out." She also meows and says "What's you doing?" and "Right now!" Elvira is a very active bird and loves to run around exploring the house if she can! She seems to have a preference for women. She loves to have her head scratched and generally to be petted all over her body once she gets to know you. Elvira would love to share your meals with you and enjoys eating with people. Elvira came to us very well cared for and from a family who obviously loved her but needed to travel and couldn't take her with them on their frequent trips. Elvira does not do well in a large family environment. We have tried placing her in foster homes with children and she does not generally get along very well. Elvira's ideal placement would be with a couple or a single person. Elvira has been in rescue since 5/2007 and her adoption fee is $75. *To adopt a bird you must attend bird care/behavior classes regardless of where you live. We only adopt within reasonable day's driving distance of the Eugene/Springfield area. We do not ship birds. At the class you can receive the name of the foster home that has the bird you're interested in and you can make an appointment with the home to do visits with the bird. A certain number of visits is required for each bird before an application will be accepted. Upon completing meetings with the bird you can put in your application at that time if you choose and expect to attend an adoption meeting. Large birds and some small will have a probation period during which time you will serve as the foster home before an adoption will be finalized. There will be a home inspection for every adoption. If the adoption is approved, either on a probationary basis or not, payment is then due and you can arrange to pick up your bird. There may be follow up phone calls from Exotic Bird Rescue after the adoption. Adoptions are not a first come first serve deal- we choose the most appropriate home for that particular bird.
