Description

Experience other cultures without leaving Lane County. Founded in 1950, the non-profit Friendship Foundation for International Students (FFIS) exists to bridge cultures and promote world peace. Become involved in our programs and befriend a University of Oregon international student or scholar. We have three primary programs:

1. Short-Term Homestay - Volunteers in the Eugene-Springfield community are needed to open their homes to new international students and scholars for 4 to 6 days when they first arrive in the USA. You help provide their first impression of Eugene and Americans. Students will then live at the UO dorms or other permanent housing.

2. Community / International Friend - Local residents offer hospitality and friendship to U of O international students and scholars throughout the year. Community members and their international friend decide on the activities and amount of time spent together.

3. Conversation Friend - Volunteers meet for one hour a week with an international student or scholar to practice conversational English. This hour a week can significantly help a student or scholar improve their everyday conversation skills, while providing both individuals an opportunity to learn about another culture.
